Clare Rojas (printmaking research project)

CLARE ROJAS

Clare Rojas was born in Ohio in 1976, but she currently lives and works in San Francisco.
She was an art student at Rhode Island School of Design.

She works with printmaking, paint, installation, and video. Below is one of her paintings:

Like her prints, her paintings are very geometric and often feature shapes and patterns.

Rojas has written children's books and enjoys creating stories with her art.

"I was once told the only way to get out of your head is to get into your body. I do this by running for example. Feeling my breath, my heart beat, my feet pound. That's how I feel about abstract work. It's instinctual. A way of seeing that is more about feeling than over intellectualizing."

Rojas creates narrative pieces in her art, focused on the relationships between men, women, society, and nature.

She explores the traditional and subordinate roles of women in a subtle and poignant way through her artwork.

Rojas is the recipient of a Project Space Residency and Tournesol Award from Headlands Center for the Arts, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, Eureka Fellowship Award, and an Artadia Award.
