Chuck Close
American painter and printmaker
Born on July 4th 1940
Close had a spinal artery collapse in 1988 and is severely paralyzed
Close has Prosopagnosia (face blindness)
Prosopagnosia is a disorder where faces are not easily recognized because the brain uses object recognition instead of facial.
 Does large-scale portraits, focused on faces
Large portraits help Close recognize faces better.
 Uses many different techniques and mediums in printing
Works from a gridded photograph for his paintings and paints each cell
Each cell has a variety of colors, but average color of each cell makes sense
