Christian Lacroix

Christian Marie Marc Lacroix, better known as Christian Lacroix, is a French fashion designer and played a revolutionary in the development of modern clothing and style.

Lacroix has a background in historical costume and clothing, which became apparent when Lacroix made headlines with his opulent, fantasy creations, including the short puffball skirt ("le pouf"), rose prints, and low décolleté necklines.

"The idea of seeing everybody clad the same is not really my cup of tea". This is one of the best quotes of Lacroix, fighting for unique and irreverent pieces in the world of fashion. His designs tend to be pretty over the top, which is pretty cool. His runway looks remind me more of art than clothing as they are wild and full of imagination, and quite avant garde.

This guy is really cool. I recommend checking him out further.
Here are some more of his designs, runway looks, and illustrations:

Fred Lyon

To me, Fred Lyon is one of the best photographers to have ever lived. I'm amazed everytime I look at one of his photographs because of the way he mixes a tremendous amount of detail with simplicity. It's a skill that every photographer strives to improve and perfect like he has.

Fred Lyon is a fourth generation San Franciscan who was born in 1924. In WWII, he served as a Navy photographer. He also documented the everyday lives of hundreds of San Franciscans from the 1940's to the 1960's and published his work in a book titled San Francisco - Portrait of a City.

His work is a real inspiration to my own photography. His technical skills are unmatched but I strive to take photos with as much attention to detail as he does.

Anna Ladd

My favorite artist right now is a woman named Anna Ladd. She is an artist based in Philadelphia who makes work that is usually personal. Some of my favorite projects are "Things i told the internet but didnt tell my mom", and "am I ever going to love anything as much as I loved fall out boy when i was 11? "

Here's a link to the 2nd.

I find this project extremely relatable. It's about being young and growing up. I like her layout with the red candles and the string and snapshots.

Here are some lines I like:

"red hair dye under my mom's watchful eye is becoming who you are"

" a shaky-legged morning-after seal of approval."

"self worth as defined by what the numbers read that morning- a repetative, consuming reminder of me value, my dripping pores, my empty stomach, my vow"

Check her out!!!

Roger Hopkins

Roger Hopkins is a stone sculptor, most of his projects are larger stone project than the stuff we work on at Urban. I think its also awesome how he incorporates stone into his landscaping. A super cool example of this is the tub he made. While I do not think that the tub is spur creative in its actual production, the way that incorporates his ability to stone carve into simple, practical uses is very intriguing. He also has some larger more creative pieces which are really cool like the picture below the tub. A lot of his work is quite simplistic and I appreciate that.

Henry Moore and Antony Gormley

Henry Moore:

Henry Moore was born in July of 1898 in the UK. Most of his work depicts abstract forms of the human figure, with his large bronze sculptures gaining the most prominence. Much of his work contains holes or hollowed out areas. He was also influential in bringing a particular form of modernism to the UK.

Antony Gormley:

Antony Gormley is another British sculptor who uses the human form as his subject. He was born in August of 1950. In fact, Gormley regularly uses his own body as the subject of his work and to create metal casts. From his Wikipedia biography, "His work attempts to treat the body not as an object but a place and in making works that enclose the space of a particular body to identify a condition common to all human beings. The work is not symbolic but indexical – a trace of a real event of a real body in time."

Brancusi:
Brancusi was a Romanian sculptor born on February 19, 1876. He was also a painter and photographer and had a specific interest in modernization and geometric shapes and forms. He is called the patriarch of modern sculpture. He started with carving wooden farm tools and as he developed into a young man he started becoming more and more interested in other materials and forms. He grew up in the Carpathian Mountains but became a famous artist and made a career in France. Brancusi learned from Antoin Mercié at his workshop where he worked for two years. He then was invited to work at Auguste Rodin’s workshop but left shortly after because he did not want to be overshadowed.

Isamu Noguchi

Isamu Noguchi

November 17, 1904- December 30 1988

Isamu Noguchi

November 17, 1904- December 30 1988

Isamu was the illegitimate son of Yone Noguchi, a Japanese poet, and Léonie Gilmour, an Irish American writer. Over his career Isamu was greatly influenced by the Japanese culture and its techniques. Leading him to do a lot of his work with traditional instruments earlier in his career. A lot of his artwork has a great deal of marks and imperfections that are meant to be shown. His work with enormous pieces of basalt and granite set him apart in the sculpture world as his pieces seemed to surpass anything that anyone else was doing in terms or hard stone carving.
